The Really Neverending Story

Here we go again…..Warner Brothers wants to jump in the remake race again with The Neverending Story.  The 1984 classic that is really still ahead of its time.  I would be lying if I said this isn’t worthy of a technological upgrade, but still….it’s a classic movie from my childhood that if I probably revisted now, would think it was lame…I just wanted to post this so I can post this video:

Get both originals now for 10 freaking bucks!

Total Remake…Err…Recall

Columbia Pictures and producer Neil H. Moritz have decided that they can’t leave well enough alone and have optioned a remake of the Schwarzenegger classic Total Recall.  Remakes are popular now a days because Hollywood has run out of original ideas and have decided to remake just about everything under the sun.

Columbia Pictures says that technology has advanced much more than it was in 1990 when the original came out. (Duh, but can they make a woman with three boobs more believable?)  This is the third Schwartzenegger flick up for remake status (Conan and Predator are the other two).  This can only mean one thing:  Twins the remake.  Get Danny Devito on the phone.

I swear to Christ if they try to remake Commando I will fly to Hollywood and blow up thier bases….Commando style.

Total Recall on Blu Ray for 12 bucks!!!!

Buy it!!

Great News For Supernatural Fans

Although network upfronts are months away, the CW took the liberty to relieve fans’ worries today.  Among many renewals is the hit show Supernatural.  (The others are Smallville, 90210, America’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, and One Tree Hill.)

This is fantastic news in my opinion.  Supernatural is one of the few consistently great shows airing on our boob tubes today.  Supernatural has slowly gained viewership over the years, and this year marks its highest ratings yet.  Unfortunately, the fifth season of Supernatural will more than likely be the last for head honcho Eric Kripke has stated that the Winchester brothers have a specific arc, and will not “drain the blood” for some extra dough.  Kudos to Mr. Kripke.

If you aren’t watching Supernatural, I give you my fullest guarantee that you will be hooked the second you start watching it on DVD.  It has great laughs and Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have the greatest chemistry this side of 30Rock with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin.  It has scares, it has great story, and great acting.  I urge you to watch it.

On a side note, Smallville has been getting better and better this season compared to the last few, so kudos again to the CW for letting it shine one last season.

Catch up with all seasons!

Scream 4 Still Going Forward? With Wes Craven?

According to Bloody Disgusting, Wes Craven may want some involvement in the third sequel to Scream.  He would direct if the script was there and the money was right according to the website.  Really?  No way!

Anyway, Scream was a good flick way back when but the two sequels were horrid.  Here’s hoping Scream 4 gets off the ground and does better than those flicks.  Here’s a blast from the past for good measure.

Funny People Trailer

The newest installment from director Judd Apatow is here and the trailer looks absolutely brilliant.  I think he’s done the sex-based comedy enough with The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up so it’s defintely a change of pace from those types of movies.

Funny People is the the story of stand up comedian Adam Sandler and his brush with death.  It looks more drama than comedy but Judd Apatow knows exactly where that line is.  I cannot wait for this movie to hit theatres.

Heath Ledger Wins Posthumous Oscar

I don’t like writing about things that other blogs have written about a thousand times.  I like to stay up to date on the cool casting news and trailers of upcoming movies.  But Heath Ledger winning an Oscar is different.  Sure everyone is writing about it this morning, and that’s the point.  Mr. Ledger captured our imaginations in his short career so much that we applaud his body of work in unison.

Way back in 2001, a little movie entitled A Knight’s Tale opened in theatres and to many’s surprise, it was a really good movie.  Sure it was silly and often times cliche, but more times than not, people say they enjoyed it because of the performance by Heath Ledger.  This sums up Heath’s career brilliantly.  If he was in a movie, it was always entertaining and interesting.  He brought a certain charisma to his roles that many actors cannot find.

It’s no secret that The Dark Knight was one of the best films of 2008.  Sure Slumdog Millionaire took home the Oscar last night, but finally hitting the 1 billion dollar mark at the world-wide box office this weekend, The Dark Knight is no doubt the most watched.  Mr. Ledger’s uncanny performance as The Joker was no doubt the main reason fans and non-fans alike flocked to the theatre.  People that didn’t like The Dark Knight (and honestly, there are not many of you out there) even stated that Heath’s performance was outstanding.

Some people say that he only won because of his tragic death.  I say to those people, “Nay.”  Heath Ledger won the Oscar and all of the other awards simply because he gave the performance of his life.  Nowhere in the movie of The Dark Knight did you actually “see” Heath Ledger.  You saw The Joker.  Heath completely brought the villian to life like no one else has ever done.  For this, I salute you Heath wherever you are.  Congratulations.

The Expendables Cast Is An Action Junkie’s Dream

What if I told you that an action movie is coming out next year that stars Sly Stallone?  You’d probably say that’s pretty cool because Rambo was an action junkie’s wet dream.  Then what would you say if the movie also starred Jason Statham and Jet-Li?  You would probably be more excited right?  I know I would because I absolutely love Statham in everything.  And yes that counts the Transporter 2 and 3.  The dude is kick ass.  Also, Unleashed with Jet-Li is one of my all-time favorite action movies.  But that news is old and I reported on that a long time ago.

Let me run down the rest of the cast for you shall we?

How about Mickey Rourke?  Don’t believe it?  Believe it.  Mickey Rourke has signed on to play a role in Sly’s ensemble pic.  How about Dolph Lungren?  You know, Ivan Drago from Rocky 4?  How about Forest Whitaker?  How about Robert Knepper aka T-Bag from Prison Break?  How about rumored roles for Sandra Bullock and Sir Ben Kingsley?  Still not enough to get you excited?  Maybe Randy Couture from UFC fame?

Fine.  Still not excited?  How about Arnold Freaking Schwarzenegger?  Yeah Arnold is taking time out of his busy schedule to play a cameo in the flick so it won’t be much but he will be in it.

But the end all be all of awesome movies….the greatest action actor ever… if you don’t have him in your action movie it will suck actor:  Danny Trejo.  Who you might say is Danny Trejo?  This guy:

Danny Trejo may be typecast as the Mexican badass dude in all cool movies, and he seems to like the name.

The Expendables is turning into the greatest action movie ever, and they haven’t even started filming yet.  Can you believe that Stallone asked Jean Claude Van Dam to be in this and he turned him down!?!  Who knows if Sly has anything else up his sleeve because rumors of actors like Carl Weathers!! and Jesse “The Body” Ventura!! pop up every now and then so let’s hope the casting doesn’t stop here.

Second of 3 Wolverine Spots Is Here!

The second of 3 Wolverine spots aired yesterday on Fox and is up now on youtube.  But for how long?? Fox is taking these things down left and right which makes no sense to me.  If you want to promote your flick, let it spread across the interwebs like wildfire right?  I guess not.  Check it out while you can!  It’s entitled Brothers and shows Wolvie and Sabretooth going through time in what looks like World War I and II and Vietnam.

*EDIT* Stupid Fox.  The youtube vid isn’t going to work.  Check out this link.

What Exactly Is Pride and Predator?

Imagine a world in which a man would drag his girlfriend to see a Jane Austen adaption on the big screen.  Yeah it probably would never happen.  Until now.  Imagine now, that in said Jane Austen adaption, just when things are getting all lovey dovey, a spaceship comes down and blasts Keira Knightley’s head off.  Things just got interesting.

Rocket Films (Elton John of all people heads this company) just announced that they just signed director Will Clark to helm Pride and Predator, a blantant rip off of Pride and Prejudice, which will veer from the traditional period dramas and insert aliens into the mix to blow up and wreak havok on the normally dull film.

My girlfriend loves Jane Austen.  Loves.  Pride and Prejudice is one, if not on the top her list, favorite movies of all time.  I cannot wait for this thing to come out. I can imagine it now:

Elizabeth:  Mr. Darcy I find you appauling!

Mr Darcy: Please take my hand in a dance.

Predator:  *Predator sound*  *Triangle Gun Light Thingie*  BLAST!!!

It writes itself.  Now sign Keira Knightley and you have box office gold!
