Beyonce. Wonder Woman. Blasphemy!
In pretty silly movie news, Beyonce Knowles has expressed her interest to WB and DC Comics in hopes that if the Wonder Woman movie is ever brought out of production hell, she might be able to play the lead role. Here’s what she had to say to the L.A. Times about it:
“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?” said Beyonce. “After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, ‘OK, I need to be a superhero’. Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there’s also an action element that I would enjoy.”
Now I am all for Civil Rights and all that but the line must be drawn! There is only so far we can go with this. I mean a black president….cool. But a black Wonder Woman!?! I understand that there is, for lack of a better word, absolutely no interesting black comic book characters, but Beyonce needs to hit the bricks with this one. Wonder Woman is white dammit. Remember when Halle Berry took over for Catwoman…..how did that work out? Or when Billy D. Williams was Harvey Dent. It just doesn’t work.
In other news, I could care less if there is a black, white, green, orange, or blue Wonder Woman. Seriously, who the heck cares as long as the movie gets off the ground. And Beyonce is so smoking hot, she could pull it off. Her acting chops might be in question to lead a huge movie like that, but who knows?
Also, according to IESB, McG is the guy Warner Bros. wants to direct the thing, but I am pretty sure he is busy making a cool movie with Christian Bale. So what does this all mean? Absolutely nothing. It’s all rumor. So sorry Beyonce, but this flick has been in production hell so long, that you are going to be old and gray before they decide to get with it and actually make the thing.
