Thank You For Being A Friend. Estelle Getty Dies.
Tim Falletti
HOLLYWOOD- When I was a youngster, I used to spend half the summer at my grandmother’s house on the south side of Chicago. My cousins would come from Wisconsin, and we would all play and swim the summer days away. The summer nights though, were reserved for playing with our GI Joes while my grandmother watched The Golden Girls. She would microwave up a bag of popcorn, and give each of us kids a bowl filled with it, and she would retire to her Lazy Boy to watch Estelle Getty light up the small screen.
Estelle Getty made thousands of people laugh, but late last night in her Hollywood Boulevard home, she lost her battle with dementia. She was 85.
Estelle always wanted to be an actress, and she achieved that goal beyond her dreams,” former “Golden Girls” co-star Rue McClanahan (Ahh Blance….my first weird crush) told The Associated Press. “Don’t feel sad about her passing. She will always be with us in her crowning achievement, Sophia.” “The Golden Girls” featured four female retirees sharing a house in Miami.
Co-star Bea Arthur released this statement: “Our mother-daughter relationship was one of the greatest comic duos ever, and I will miss her.”
